Stronger Together: The Collagen VI Community – Connecting Globally
Recap of the 2025 COL6-MD Meeting in Leimen, Germany
From September 19–21, 2025, people with Collagen VI-related muscular dystrophies from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland gathered in Leimen by Heidelberg for the annual COL6-MD meeting organized by the German Muscular Dystrophy Society (DGM). For the first time, the event was also streamed online, allowing international participation and exchange.
A highlight was the global dialogue with guests from around the world: Diana Abramova (Russia), Onur Cakir (Turkey), Dr. Gustavo Dziewczapolski, Avery Berger & Kelly Berger (USA) shared insights into their work, advocacy, and lived experiences. Their contributions inspired participants and demonstrated the strength of a united international community.
Research updates were presented by Dr. Franziska Haarich and Prof. Großkreutz (University Hospital Lübeck) as well as Prof. Dr. Carsten Bönnemann, who discussed the latest advances in therapy development.
The meeting once again highlighted the power of the Collagen VI community – connected across borders, sharing knowledge, empathy, and hope.
